Miss Eva Ashford,
Well-Known Woman,
Dies at 83

Rites were held Tuesday afternoon at the D.C. Stow funeral home here for Miss Eva Ashford, well-known Gainesville woman, who died Monday at the residence on Candler street after an extended illness. The Rev. E.H. Harrison officiated and burial was in Alta Vista cemetary.

Miss Ashford, who was 83 years of age, was a native of Lee county, Ala., a daughter of the late Mr. J.Y. Ashford and Mrs. Evelyn Jane Appleby Ashford, widely known couple. She had made her home in Gainesville most of her life, where she had been actively identified with the social, religious and cultural life of the community.

Miss Ashford was a member of the Baptist church and for years had been a leading figure in W.M.S. circles. While leaving the First Baptist church at the close of a Sunday morning service, Miss Ashford fell and suffered a fractured hip from which she never fully recovered.

Surviving are three sisters: Mrs. J.W. Markham, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Miss Lottie Merck, Mrs. H.A. Daniels, Gainesville, and several neices and nephews.
