Rites Held for Panama's Mayor

Banker Dies Suddenly On Hunting Trip

PANAMA CITY, Dec 6 - Several thousand Panama Citians and residents of other Northwest Florida communities attended funeral services for Mayor Harry G. Fannin here this afternoon.

George Malone, James Andrews, Mahlon Weis, and G.W. Wing were among those present from Pensacola.

Services were conducted at the home on Beach drive and also at the Greenwood cemetery by the Rev. D. D. McDaniel, pastor of First Baptist Church here.

Business places of the city closed during the funeral.

Pallbearers were C. Moore, J.R. Esbell, J.A. Smith, B.S. Gordon, J. Will Brown, J.C. Cogburn, Raymond Jones and Tom Sale.

Asbell, who was mayor pro tem and is now acting mayor, returned this morning from Jacksonville, where he had been attending the Florida State Chamber of Commerce meeting.

Walter C. Sherman and City Manager Clyde Swank, who were at the meeting also returned.

Mr. Fannin had served as mayor since March, 1940. He came here from Apalachicola in 1930 and headed the Commercial bank of this city.

Born at Carrabelle he was reared in Blountstown and was a cabin boy on the old steamer Tarpon before becoming tax assessor of Franklin county and later head of the American ????? bank of Apalachicola.
