Mr. Jas.
H. Ashford Dies
Mr.
James H. Ashford died at his home on Candler street Monday morning at
11:00 o'clock at the age of 49 years.
The funeral was conducted from the First Baptist church yesterday afternoon
at 3:00 o'clock by Rev. E. P. Campbell, the pastor assisted by Rev. T.
R. Kendall, Jr. Interment was at Alta Vista cemetery.
Mr. Ashford had for over twenty-five years been a printer, and twenty
years or more of his work in the profession had been spent in this city.
He was a man who was loved by everyone who knew him and who commanded
the respect and esteem of all by his clean life, exemplary habits and
straightforward dealings. It has been truly said that "Mr. Jim,"
as he was called by so many of his printer friends was one of God's noblemen,
and his death closes a life which was spent in quietness, gentleness and
industrial pursuit. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church
and was a regular attendant upon its services. The printing industry sustains
the loss of one of its finest members, and the community the loss of one
of its best citizens in his death.
He is survived by his wife and three children, Edgar, Virginia, and James
K. Ashford; his mother, Mrs. E. J. Ashford; one brother, Mr. W. K. Ashford,
all of this city, and four sisters, Mrs. C. S. Merck, Mrs. H. A. Daniels,
and Miss Eva Ashford, of this city and Mrs. J. W. Markham of Jacksonville.
J. H. Ashford
Mr. James H. Ashford, age 49, who died at his home on the corner of Candler
and Prior streets Monday night at 11:30 o'clock, after a lingering illness
of about 4 years duration, was a man who taught others how to live, lived
himself and was a blessing to all things living.
He was that fine type of man who dignified honest labor; exemplified the
Christian religion; graced the society of which he was a part and rendered
real the home life, and upon such virtues of heart, mind and soul rest
the security of government and civilization-he was a Christian gentleman
in the purest and best sense of the term.
