The copy that I received of this over fax was in a certificate format, very formal looking.

William Andrew Barnett Wing, who was born in Milford Haven, Wales, in 1817, and was married in Apalachicola, Florida, U.S.A., comes of distinguished British ancestry. The first record of the Wings is of Jon Wyng, who owned the manor house of Abbots Bromley in the county of Staffordshire in 1220 A.D. hence, the name is some 745 years old. In the Land Rolls of Holyhead, Wales, in 1298 A.D., Willem Wyng is recorded as owning 1 ½ measures of land (about 120 acres). Like many names (e.g. Bird and Legg) the name Wing is derived from a natural object - a bird's wing.

In the 1300s Wing families are listed as owning manor houses as follows: Philip Winge, 26 acres and a manor house at Brecon, 1320; Simon Wyng, 30 acres and manor house at Caerphilly, 1345; Roger Winge, 20 acres and manor house at Talgarth, 1354; Godfrey Wing, 15 acres and manor house at Brecon, 1365. The first Wings emigrated to the U.S.A. from the Port of London in March, 1632, on the ship "William and Francis."

The printed records of births, marriages and deaths at Milford Haven are in a bad state for the years in and around 1817 A.D. A search among available records in the Pembrokeshire Diocese reports shows that John Wing and Mary Wilson were parents of William Andrew Barnett of Milford Haven, 1822. In the Household Census of 1824 John Wing and his wife Mary are entered as being tenants paying three shillings rent at Lampeter. A search of the Welsh parish registers shows that there were 12 John Wings born in different Welsh parishes in the 1780 to 1795 period, but none in the Milford Haven parish, for which parish a large number of the records at this time were either not kept or were destroyed through fire or other destruction. A search of individual parish records in which John Wings are mentioned (i.e. Llangollen, Ruthin, Corwen, Llanidloes, Llanbedr, Penybont, Aberdare, Neath) resulted in the following birth records: Henry Wing and Josephine Wing, parents of John Wing, (Corwen), June 19th, 1794.

Although genealogical links are here not conclusive, this research completely covers all available sources.
